We are always looking for new ideas and topics for the monthly newsletter. If you have an idea or would be interested
in writing an article, please let us know.
Please remember you must pay your registration on the 1st class of the month. Please
remember we now are a staff of 5 and registration is imperitive. Also, no more visiting other classes unless
Irene has specifically invited you to attend as a "transition stage".
Director’s Note:
Mil gracias for your participation at Cesar
Chavez Day. I sincerely appreciate all your efforts. It was great to have a pot luck as a group. I hope to have
this pleasure again at the cinco de mayo Festival on Sunday, May 4th at Carson Park. Mil gracias to all those people that were kind enough to donate stuffed animals, small toys and other prizes
for our game booths. We will be in charge of the game booths again for the cinco
de mayo festival, so please start bringing in more prizes for that day.
Congratulations to our dancers. They did an amazing job performing! I’m proud of you. Mil gracias to the hard work of Adrian Altamirano, taking care of the music &
taking charge of many duties that day. Hernan, my Nanito, thanks for helping
with the Pequenitas that day!! Class Moms for the Pequenitas-Gabby, Lorena & Eloisa you all work as an amazing team and your class organization reflects
that. Thank youso much for taking a load off my hands!!!
Competition
The Advanced class and Ninas
Chulas will be participating in the Sabor Latino Dance Competition on Saturday, April 26th at Redondo Union High
School. We will also have the opportunity to make money by selling drinks. Please, we ask that each dancer donate a 12 pack of drinks such as sports drinks,
water, sodas, tea, and juices. Advanced dancers will be in charge if collecting
the drinks or you may donate $5 instead per dancer instead. This is a huge help for the group and its expenses. Unfortunately,
as you all know, a small group of individuals has insisted on keeping all the profits from our very successful recital in
November 2007. Although, they do not deserve one penny from the revenue, since they had no part in the costume design,
choreography or one day of class instruction, they are still in possession of every cent. It is rather unfortunate that
many of you have not been reimbursed for all your hard work and other reimbursables and truly do apologize for having placed
you in this awkward position.
Fundraiser
For the month of April we will
have a Home Interiors Candle Fundraiser. Thanks to Mary Corniel, mom of Lovey
from Ninas Chulas for the incentive to head up this fundraiser. The candles wil
sell for $7 plus tax & Shiping and handling. For every candle you sell, you
will be credited $2.00 towards your personal account which can be used for costumes, accessories, performance expenses etc. This will be due on . Please make the checks out to. Candles will be delivered on. This would make a great Mther’s Day or Birthday gift. Please let me know if you want to head up the next fundraiser.
Birthdays
Irene-24th, Angie-25th
Parent Meeting-11/14/07 was very successful. Thank you all for your patience,
understanding and most of all your support. I will keep you updated.
I am announcing for the first time since 1999 the addition of teaching assistants.
These instructors are all part of the newly formed Sabor de Mexico Dance Company. Irene will continue teaching all 8
classes, but will at times allow these assistants to take over. They will be assisting in The Munchkins & Pequenitas.
Welcome:
Adrian "Nayarit" Altamirano
Gavilanes(Pequenitas class)
Angie Gonzalez & Maricarmen Betancourt
(Pequenita girls)
Hernan Juarez
(Munchkin boys)
Parents & guests-please there is no sitting in the class unless Irene has asked you
to do something for her. It is very distracting to the dancers as well as to Irene. Do save your questions for
before or after class. You can also refer to the class representative.
Do see Irene for your Tepic, Nayarit information sheet.
"LAS HISTORIAS DE DONA MONA", was a personal journey of Irene's folklorico upbringing,
stories and influences she shared with her good friend, Ramona Nicolas. Sadly, Dona Mona passed away January 18, 2006.
This was Irene's personal tribute to her.
Unfortunately, although this was an extremely emotional time for Irene, there is a small
group of individuals that directly benefitted from this recital that are undeserving of even one cent. I know that DONA
MONA and others frown upon the audacity to benefit and continue benefitting from their actions. It's unfortunate that
these individuals do not possess enough positivity in their lives, that they feel they must continue to meddle in the continued
success of Sabor de Mexico. May the Lord Bless them and help them refocus on their families, health and personal, positive
growth.
